I am a software testing consultant and Chief Technology Officer at STA Consulting with over 35 years’ experience in the IT industry. I work in development, testing and education and have a PhD in software testing. Application areas range from safety-critical to financial and media.
I provide testing consultancy and training worldwide. In addition to this work, I also support the worldwide testing community in the areas of standards and professional development.
I am convener of the ISO Software Testing Working Group, which has published the new ISO 29119 Software Testing standards and I am also the software testing representative at BSI. For more details of this work see here.
From 2004 until 2019 I chaired the BCS Specialist Group in Software Testing. In 2001, I founded the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) to promote software testing qualifications on a global scale (see here for details of this).
I enjoy speaking at conferences, especially on software testing, and I am invited to present keynotes, workshops (see here for details of available workshops) and track sessions in Europe, Asia, Australasia, and the US. In 2007 I chaired EuroSTAR, Europe’s largest ever software testing conference with over 1200 attendees and I regularly write articles on software testing for magazines. In 2001 I won the European Testing Excellence award and in 2019 I was appointed a Testing Expert in Korea by the Korean Software Technology Association (KOSTA) for my contribution to software testing in Korea.
I like to spend my spare time with my family – when they let me 🙂 – but I have not yet persuaded them that watching football is a worthwhile pursuit! I also like to design and build automata and fly kites (not metaphorical ones) when I get the opportunity.
